HERALD
Transcona residents are eager to find out just what the retail element of the Park City Commons development will feature.
Driving down Plessis Road, it’s difficult to miss the rather vast construction site located at the junction of Plessis, Transcona Boulevard and Kildare Avenue.
A large banner on the fence surrounding the property reads "Coming February 2019, Park City Commons." The words "Live, Work & Play" capture the vision of the real estate developer, EdgeCorp Group, and piqued my curiosity.
This project has been an ongoing topic of discussion in the neighborhood as the development comes closer to completion.
Residents of Transcona have been speculating what establishments will be part of Park City Commons since the project’s inception.
Some locals have been heard openly discussing their wishes for the development, while others have simply been sharing the rumours that they’ve heard about the plans for the area.
Being curious about the property myself, I took a few moments to review the information at parkcitycommons.com and am now able to answer some of the questions that people have been asking.Park City Commons is a 23-acre development that will contain more than 100,000 square feet for commercial development, as well as over 600 apartments and condominiums.
The property will be home to a grocery store, gas station, drug store and a variety of restaurants. A recreational centre and a library will also be included in the project.
Although plans are subject to change, according to the website, tenants will include No Frills, Shell, Rexall, Pet Planet, A&W, KFC and Starbucks. The retail properties, as well as the apartments, are described as modern in design to appeal to the residents as well as to visitors to the area.
Park City Commons will thus bring with it a variety of employment opportunities for those eager to get their first job or those who simply have a desire to try something new.
The philosophy behind the overall concept for Park City Commons represents a desire to develop a "community" where residents can live and have easy access to shops, services, and amenities.
There is even a plan in place to have property management clear snow and ice from area pathways as well as roadways during the winter months, ensuring that the complex will be accessible to all, including those with mobility issues.
Referred to as "a place that has it all," Park City Commons is a unique community development that is unlike any other in the suburbs of Winnipeg. With properties still for lease, it appears that some of the future tenants will remain unknown to us for a little while longer.
As area residents continue to watch Park City Commons come to life, we eagerly anticipate the hanging of a new banner that reads "Grand Opening."
